Vanakam! Compass to Sri Lanka

Announcment of Change

Gabor Kiss is to be find in near future under the coordinates

B: 9.05327°

L: 80.5075°

There will be a huge gap in the community of Krefeld because Gabor Kiss will get his suitcases packed definitley. A lot of relationships . memorabila of Krefeld and hints to his life which will be transported to his new place. Farewell to the city of velvet and silk.

He arrived in Krefeld by accident , he just wanted to check on the town. He stayed 24 years what means „heimat“ for someone who made art out of changes (even at the same place). There are many Gabor-places , born in Munich, raised in Hamburg he became „the Blitz of The Kiez (Hamburgs redlightdistrict)“.And then Krefeld where so many know him from pub visits, forest walks, cultural events even the mayor himself.

About someone who plans to plant Aloe Vera

What will the mayor give Gabor to bring to the Indian Ocean? At least the letter K ist to be found in Krefeld and Sri Lanka even many times in Gabors new home Kanakarayan-Kulam. A little village in the northern province of Sri Lanka. The travelller Gabor Kiss as a naturalist with degree made already plans with a Sri-lankan partner: Ecological forestation of wasteland in combinaeion with ayurveda treatments and guesthouses for backpackers and tourists.

The slogan of the project is: „Plant a tree and get a massage for free“. The planting will be organized and instructed by the former Krefelder Gabor but the massage will be given by a pro of the nearby Ayurveda clinic. This charming jointventure combines two aspects: Gabor helps visitors to plant Aloe Vera not far from Kanakarayan-Kulam. and the experts from the Rural Siddha Hospital might use this Aloe Vera combined with healing herbs for their treatments.

German Guesthouse „Jungle Huts“

Additionally Gabor and his partner plan to build a compound of German guesthouses near the village. These should grow like the coconutpalmtrees or mangotrees and maybe some wild elephants will pass by in the tropical green which is typical for the landscape. Two solid stonehouses, a lounge are already built as the sanitary tract with European toilets and showers. More wooden huts compfy, basic with little extras will follow. Gabor will become the host of these „Jungle Huts“ near Kanakarayan-Kulam. The village is based directly at the highway A9 which connects the cities Kandy and Jaffa and which is a popular route for tourists and Backpackers.

The connection between Gabors new home and Jeanivan Inbarajah from the „Anjuna“ at Krefelds Mühlenstraße will be explained on this homepage within the chapter Vanakam! compass for Sri Lanka. Vanakam stands for „Welcome!“.

Two – the second.

Vanakam! Compass to Sri Lanka

The (still) never-ending story:
Gabor and the departure for the island

Actually, in German there is a word for situations that actually turn out differently than actually thought. Yes, actually Gabor Kiss would now be blinking into the tropical sun through dense palm greenery, perhaps dreaming of new trees so that an ecological reforestation project near Kanakarayan-Kulam would take roots more and more extensively. Because he should have been there in northern Sri Lanka since last November already.

Accordingly, a large part of his belongings, including furniture, reached the island in the Indian Ocean some time ago and are waiting for him there, as patiently as material goods can be to their owners.

In this story, only Gabor himself is impatient. Because his departure is delayed. And delayed. Administrative reasons, Gabor grumbles a little annoyed into his beard (reasons whose causes, in order to avoid any false assumptions, are not to be found in Krefeld City Hall).
The current status quo: instead of departure, a quiet curse now and then.

But there is good news from Sri Lanka. A proper little camp is gradually growing near Kanakarayan-Kulam, and the first jungle huts will soon be built for backpackers and other tourists exploring the country and its people. These functional huts will not be shining with the four or five stars of the high-comfort sky, but with the beautiful sun of Sri Lanka and the sparkling night sky of the tropics. The Jungle Huts offer two beds and a few more hospitable features – and can be described from their best side, so to speak: (almost) square. Very practical. And good.

Gabor is already able to present a mobile model of the wooden architecture in the video:

The lounge in the small jungle village called German Guesthouse is available for breakfast, meals and shopping. There are also two stone houses. Jeanivan Inbarajah from “Anjuna” on Mühlenstraße in Krefeld is once again behind the project. More about this in the next episode of Vanakam! Compass to Sri Lanka.

Gabor Kiss can only wait. For the green light to finally come through for his move to Kanakarayan-Kulam. But when? “I hope it will be the end of February or in March,” his optimism is making a statement.

Until then, he will remain part of the local scene, where he has enjoyed the status of an original for many years. And you can bet that many of Krefelds pub guests will rub their eyes in amazement when Gabor serves up one of his legendary card tricks.

Tho’ he wouldn’t have been here for several weeks. Actually.
